As Senior Manager, Total Rewards, your essential job functions will include the following:


  • Accountable for the strategy, design, implementation, communication and administration of all Dealer Tire benefit programs, inclusive of health, dental, vision, life, disability insurance programs, 401(k), wellness and other related programs.
  • Ensure that all benefit and wellness programs are designed in tandem to reward associates for achieving the company’s financial, marketplace and cultural objectives while creating a strong employer value proposition to candidates.
  • Direct and supervise benefits compliance activities in response to federal/state legislative/ regulatory acts and reporting/disclosure requirements including but not limited to ACA, IRS, ERISA, Summary Plan Descriptions maintenance and distribution, legal notification requirements, HIPAA notification and compliance, FMLA notification and COBRA administration.
  • Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of and applying that knowledge of benefits regulations to ensure coordination of all programs as required and in conjunction with federal and state laws.
  • In partnership with the benefits broker, analyze and research employee benefit programs in relation to the current marketplace, competitiveness, demographics, cost and any government or company compliance issues; make recommendations for changes to Benefits Committee.
  • Create efficiencies in the management of our absence programs and benefits including medical leaves, FMLA, worker’s compensation and ADAAA.
  • Partner closely with Finance, Legal & Payroll as necessary for complex issue resolution.
  • Manage positive working relationships with carriers, providers, brokers, attorneys and third party administrators to develop and maintain benefit plans.
  • Manage vendor contracts.
  • Hold vendors/brokers accountable for performance metrics.
  • Answer associates questions on company benefit plans and provide additional requested information to associates.
  • Review schedules for the 401k audit; prepare the 401K financial statements and ensure the 5500 is filed in a timely manner.
  • Review payments and monthly reconciliations of company’s monthly benefits billings from outside vendors.
  • In collaboration with Director, People Operations, develop strategic plans and budgets and implement operating plans with performance metrics for the benefit & wellness programs.
  • Ensure team adherence to the annual budget.
  • Develop a communication plan and materials to ensure employee understanding of their eligible benefits; inclusive of compliance-related materials as well as materials for introducing new or changed benefit options.
  • Act as primary interface with internal and external auditors on information requests and fact gathering.
  • Lead the Benefits & Investment Committees.

Compensation & Organization Management

  • Partner with the Director, People Operations and Executive Management to develop the company’s compensation philosophy and deliver programs to support the philosophy.
  • Update salary ranges annually, based on external market movement; ensure maintenance and updating of salary structure.
  • Conduct salary surveys for new positions and annually for targeted positions.
  • Collaborate with leadership on administration of the annual performance review and merit/salary review processing.
  • Provide coaching to management regarding employee compensation; conduct research and prepare proposals for management review.
  • Provide counsel to Talent Acquisition on employment offers.
  • Work with HR, Talent Acquisition, and internal clients to resolve compensation-related issues.
  • Develop and manage all incentive programs including sales commission plans, departmental plans and Dealer Tire Profit Sharing program.
  • Train Dealer Tire management on the effective use of the compensation programs.
  • Partner with leadership and the Talent department to assist with organizational structure changes.


  • Direct all aspects of multistate payroll operations. Oversee processes and procedures of payroll, payroll accounting, and payroll tax for a domestic and international company. Oversee Expat payroll and taxation. 
  • Provide guidance and direction to the Payroll team in the overall operation of the Payroll Department. Develop talent and bench strength as a best in class payroll department.
  • Design short-term and long-term strategies for continuous improvement in payroll operations. Develop programs and procedures to improve the efficiency of the department using new technology and methods.
  • Develop and maintain audit procedures to insure the accuracy and integrity of the payroll process and SOX compliance.
  • Liaise with business operations, Legal and HR on the administration of payroll processes and policies and resolution of business problems.
  • Stay abreast of new legislative changes that affect the payroll processes.
  • Manage the Planning process of the payroll operations to ensure alignment of the unit with corporate strategies and tactics. Create functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develop budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.
  • Advise, evaluate and challenge the financial impact of all strategies and tactics with Payroll impact

Leadership, Mentoring and Coaching

  • Provide leadership, coaching and development opportunities for the Total Rewards team.
  • Communicate operational priorities, objectives and goals.
  • Facilitate problem solving and collaboration.
  • Complete a performance evaluation of each team member and recommend appropriate action such as promotions, counseling and termination.
  • Determine staffing needs, interview potential candidates and hire associates.

Other Duties as Assigned

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
  • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), or Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) preferred.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) and/or Workday Payroll Certified preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in benefits, leave administration, retirement plans and ERISA.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Compensation management.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a Payroll management role.
  • Demonstrated experience in payroll process design, metrics, project management and change management
  • Knowledge of current payroll best practices, compliance and legislation requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing and developing a team.
  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements both adopted and pending affecting employee benefit programs, including ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADAAA, SECTION 125, Workers Compensation, IRS and DOL requirements.
  • Knowledge of Benefits design, funding, administration, financing, reporting and disclosure requirements (multi- site, multi-state a plus).
  • Collaborative approach to working with internal customers and experience managing external business partners.
  • Exceptional oral, written, persuasion and negotiations abilities.
  • Excellent strategic, organizational and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with a strong focus on customer service.
  • Strong results orientation and ability to execute and be “hands-on”.
  • Ability to articulate complex topics in simple, straightforward manner to all levels of management and associates.
  • Ability to research and identify problems, develop proposals, conduct analysis independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Experience with self-funded health plans.

Physical Requirements

  • Continuous viewing from and inputting data to a computer screen.
  • Sitting for long periods of time.
  • Ability to travel (<10%).
