As a Senior Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE) at Dealer Tire, you will be a thought leader and mentor on a highly skilled team of innovative data and dev ops professionals who are responsible for the 24x7x365 support of data systems, including cloud technologies like AWS S3, EC2, and Redshift, Snowflake, and Power BI, database platforms like Microsoft SQL Server, DB2, and MariaDB, ETL/ELT tools like StreamSets, SAP Data Integrator, and SSIS, and analytical tools like Oracle Analytics Server, Posit (R Studio) Teams, and Alteryx across the Dealer Tire family of companies. DBREs work closely with our Software and Infrastructure Engineering teams to keep our data systems healthy and are a blend of Database Administrators and Systems Engineers/Administrators that have a passion for data and analytics, a keen eye for system performance, and a knack for problem solving and automation.
Your essential job functions will include:
- Serve as a thought leader and point of escalation for database technologies across the enterprise, staying abreast of industry trends and best practices, software/update releases, security concerns, etc. as they pertain to those technologies.
- Mentor and coach others to improve skills and provide cross-training.
- Lead implementation, version upgrade, high availability, disaster recovery, and other project efforts, working closely with other engineering teams to achieve desired results.
- Design and implement databases and data systems utilizing implementation and management standards and best practices, leveraging automation where possible, and producing system documentation and other project deliverables as required.
- Perform day-to-day database and data system administration activities to ensure integrity, security, performance, and reliability of production and development environments.
- Make recommendations to improve database, data system, and application design standards that will increase performance, reliability, and ease of administration.
- Design, implement, and administer database and data system access and security in adherence with security policies and best practices. Maintain current releases of operating systems, applications, and software patch levels as required.
- Work with Infrastructure Engineering and Enterprise Production Support teams to improve the observability of our data systems and related metrics and to monitor and respond to any performance or reliability issues that may arise.
- Work closely with the Data and Software Engineering teams, helping them design and build applications, databases, and data pipelines that meet the performance needs of the business.
- Work with Enterprise Production Support and the Data and Software Engineering teams to roll out database and data system changes to production environments, adhering to standard change control processes and procedures.
- Lead the automation of routine tasks and help the engineering teams succeed by providing self-service tools for their use.
- Plan the growth and manage the capacity of our databases and data systems.
- Investigate and resolve issues in accordance with departmental metrics and established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Provide on-call support on a rotating basis with the team.

Position Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in a Database Administrator, Data DevOps, Database Reliability Engineer, or comparable role is required.
- Expert-level skills in querying and administering one or more database platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server, Snowflake, MySQL/MariaDB, etc. are required.
- Expert-level skills in performing root cause analysis on databases and applications to answer specific business questions, identify opportunities for improvement, or resolve system or process issues is required.
- Expert-level skills in implementing and managing high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) database solutions is required. Examples include SQL Server Failover Clusters, Availability Groups, and Log Shipping.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced, high growth environment and manage multiple concurrent workstreams and priorities is a must.
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Intelligence/Data Analytics, Information Systems, or another quantitative field is a plus.
- Experience with any of the following technologies is a plus: SAP Data Integrator, Syniti Data Replication, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Oracle Business Intelligence/Oracle Analytics Server, JD Edwards, DB2, Python, Power Shell, Amazon AWS (EC2 instances, Redshift, S3, etc.), Google Analytics, Google Big Query, Snowflake, Alteryx, Power BI, R, Posit (R Studio) Teams, and Windows and Linux servers.
- General expertise in enterprise IT architecture (databases, ERP, middleware, UI, networking, infrastructure) is a plus.
