As Director, Corporate Development & Strategy, your essential job functions will include the following:

Corporate Development

  • Lead and coordinate the evaluation, prioritization and development of potential acquisitions, strategic partnerships, and investment opportunities from a qualitative and quantitative perspective
    • Develop a product/service roadmap and framework that will enable the organization to identify strategic buy, build, or partnership recommendations
    • Identify strategic targets to increase competitive position within existing markets or opportunities to expand into new markets
    • Define the M&A framework for filtering and validating opportunities
  • In coordination with executive management and deal teams, support diligence and integration activities related to M&A opportunities, partnering with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful deal completion
  • Facilitate/support/conduct to ensure successful completion of
    • Information gathering
    • Financial modeling and scenario planning
    • Due diligence with other departments, and external resources as necessary
    • Relationship building with potential target companies
    • Letter of intent, bidding, drafting and negotiations of merger/investment agreements
    • Implementation/execution
  • Organize, package, and communicate concise, logical, fact-based storylines, content and underlying analysis to support executive leadership in their decision-making processes
  • Provide recommendation on action plans and next steps where needed
  • Develop execution plans in collaboration with functional departments
  • Ensure processes are created for the successful hand-off of the operation to the other functional departments in the near to mid term after startup or acquisition
  • Ensure business continuity, cultural adoption and short-term business tactics are in place to meet the near-term goals

Corporate Strategy

  • Work jointly with the CEO, CFO and other executives to drive the strategic planning process and implementation of the company’s long-range strategic plan
  • Guide end-to-end strategy development and recommend adjustments to existing strategies based upon new learnings and changes in the competitive landscape
  • Lead cross-functional teams to identify, evaluate and execute critical strategic priorities and action against these priorities through strategic long-range business planning and performance management
  • Oversee and provide extensive analytical leadership and insight to test strategic hypotheses, communicating results succinctly and effectively to executive leadership
  • Drive project management and coordination with Financial Planning & Analysis team, as needed, to build project-level budgets and understand impact to the company’s long-range financial plans
  • Develop content, materials, and lead facilitation of portions of strategic planning meetings

Strategic Research, Industry & Market Intelligence

  • Monitor, track and interpret industry, competitive and emerging trends that may impact the company and translate it to meaningful implications for the business
  • Maintain a perspective on current market conditions, competitive trends and the company’s relative positioning from a strategic and competitive standpoint
  • Develop and distribute industry and market research analysis to executive leaders, the Board of Directors and other key stakeholders, to provide insight into changing market dynamics
  • Create communication channels to gain intelligence as needed through leveraging both internal and external sources
  • Provide market intelligence and research for previously identified target opportunities

Leadership, Mentoring and Coaching

  • Provide leadership, coaching and development opportunities for a team of up to two associates
  • Routinely monitor individual team member performance and development, providing guidance and feedback, and ensuring alignment around long term development plans and career path
  • Communicate operational priorities, objectives, and goals
  • Facilitate problem solving and collaboration

Other Duties as Assigned

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA strongly preferred
  • 8+ years of corporate development, investment banking, private equity and/or management consulting experience
  • Experience originating and driving deal processes and diligence, including interaction with counterparties and advisers, for a wide variety of transactions
  • Networking, collaboration and consensus building skills; ability to work across many functional areas, interact with individuals across all levels throughout organization, build alliances and influence decision makers
  • Excellent analytical skills combined with ability to synthesize diverse inputs into meaningful insights; comfort with quantitative and financial data
  • Strong team builder and cross functional boundary spanner
  • Courage and conviction to champion actions that are best for the long-term health of the organization, rather than those which are easy or politically expedient
  • Big picture, strategic thinker, creativity, intellectual curiosity and love of learning
